Creating from a very early age, I was drawn to the viscosity and texture of oil paint. Pears are what started my fruit obsession over 25 years ago, while studying oil painting at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was an easy to carry subject matter, between city streets and museum studios. In the throes of shock subject matter of the time, I chose something that none of my contemporaries were painting... fruit. They were juicy beings to me and have always been vessels for personalities.
My art is heavily influenced by my own passion and desires as well as the relationships and beauty in the world around me. I strive to capture the essence of my subjects as more than just still life. By using color, composition, detail and emotion I can give them personality and bring them to life on the canvas.
Fruit as fleshy packages... portraiture.
